We seek to recruit a Relationship Manager to join our fantastic team of Small Relationship Managers, who will have responsibility for the retention of members and growth of new members in our small sized band (businesses with 1-50 employees) within the Darlington and North Yorkshire area.

North East England Chamber of Commerce is the region’s largest membership organisation, representing 3,000 businesses. From SMEs to multi-nationals, the Chamber brings business people together across a range of member events, to ensure they get access to the best possible support.

We have an extensive portfolio of business products, services and knowledge which are utilised by our members. The product range and sales mix are diverse and therefore requires a multi-skilled sales professional to ensure continued growth. For over 200 years, we have been helping businesses and individuals grow their network, knowledge, influence and reach.

What you’ll be doing

The role will sit within the Membership team consisting of 14 passionate colleagues who help and support North East businesses. The successful candidate will work alongside 5 other Small Relationship Managers who cover the North East region. The main purpose of the role is to recruit new members and to retain current members in our small business portfolio (businesses with 1-50 employees). The portfolio has huge potential to grow and we are looking for the right candidate who will relish this opportunity.

The role involves growing the Chambers Small membership base through working collaboratively with self-generation of appropriate number of appointments each month, to achieve recruitment targets (typically Owner / Director level contacts) and ensure improving retention targets through securing renewed subscriptions from existing members.

We are looking for the successful candidate to increase the engagement of the members with the Chambers products and services and improving members’ experience of the Chamber. You will be continually developing effective working relations with members to ensure they maximise the benefits of membership through clear communication.

Part of the role will also involve working in collaboration with the Chamber’s events team, attending and facilitating networking events for members (breakfast; lunch; evening events).

What we need to see.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team player with a demonstrable track record in customer acquisition / sales and account management at Director/Owner level. You will be an excellent communicator, with knowledge of the North East region and an awareness of the needs of the Chamber members and businesses.

To be successful in this post, you will be target driven, highly professional, well organised and able to demonstrate your ability to manage several projects simultaneously. Ideally with a strong B2B sales background, you will be confident in your ability to network at a high level and to encourage Chamber members to maximise the potential that membership of the Chamber offers.
We would also expect to see a strong network of contacts within the North East and knowledge and experience of using the Chamber membership in previous roles.
The other essential requirements are tenacity, enthusiasm, the ability to work hard and a passion to succeed. This is a challenging and varied role where no two days will be the same!
