We seek to recruit a Business Development Co-ordinator to join our fantastic business development team based from our head office in Durham, Aykley Heads, on a fixed term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to be part of a passionate and hard-working team to help grow and support our ERDF Project.

North East England Chamber of Commerce is the organisation appointed by Department for International Trade to deliver DIT International Trade Services to North East Businesses. These services include the provision of a broad range of advice, market intelligence and financial support to companies new to exporting or addressing new export markets.

What you'll be doing:

The post-holder will provide support to our ERDF Project team to identify appropriate businesses across the North East that are new to DIT and have an exportable product or service. This role is part of the ERDF project Expanding North East Presence in International Markets and will report into our Business Development Manager. The post holder will also be required to:

  • To generate appointments for the International Trade Advisers to assist the business in hitting targets
  • To help businesses across the North East Region increase their international trade competitiveness by offering them appropriate support
  • To offer support that complements the work of the International Trade Advisers
  • To ensure all DIT / Partner event delegates are contacted
  • To contribute to ideas for re-engaging with lapsed clients

What we need to see:

Our team is passionate about North East business and have the ability to work hard to achieve desired outcomes. Skills and experience are important but what is important above all else is character and willingness to learn and achieve. It is vitally important that we find the right person who fits into our beliefs and culture here at the Chamber. Some of the other things we are looking for are detailed below:

  • Basic educational standard (GCSE) to high standard including Maths and English
  • Previous business development experience or significant experience in dealing with SME’s in a customer service environment
  • Strong understanding of DIT products and services
  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with companies from different sectors and of different sizes
  • Knowledge of the region
  • Understanding of other services offered by local and international providers in international trade
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
