Newcastle Wood Recycling CIC

Sector: Manufacturing

Newcastle Wood Recycling is a not-for-profit organisation set up to collect and re-use waste timber, create sustainable jobs, volunteering and training opportunities to local people and provide affordable reclaimed timber, furniture & garden products to the community. Our aims are to divert as much wood as possible from the waste stream in the North East. We offer a waste wood collection service – a more environmentally friendly and socially responsible alternative to a skip. And almost always cheaper too! Wood collected is reused or recycled in the most environmentally friendly way, and sold on for DIY material, as unique furniture and garden products or as firewood. 100% of the timber we collect is reused or recycled – nothing is returned to the waste stream. As the wood comes in it is carefully sorted by our dedicated volunteers and used in the most environmentally beneficial way. For example, long lengths, sheet materials, doors or other reusables are sold on for DIY/building. Shorter lengths of timber are used to make wooden products and much of the remainder is chopped up and sold for firewood and kindling. What cannot be reused is passed on for chipping. We have a retail space which is open 6 days a week and we also hire out studios to other creatives at our yard, in Walker. Come and say hello!
