THEY’RE CLAPPING DOWN BELOW FOR THE NHS
As people across the country continue to ‘clap for the NHS’ every Thursday evening, among them is a group of workers far underground.
Author: ICL Boulby
It’s cakes for all at ICL Boulby to mark the first anniversary of the transition, which saw the mine become world’s first and only producer of the multi-nutrient mineral polyhalite.
Specially made cakes were on offer to all the workforce as thanks for what Boulby general manager and Vice President Andrew Fulton described as ‘the superb teamwork and the commitment of each and every member of staff in tackling the challenge of enormous change over the past 12 months.’
Marketed as Polysulphate, Boulby polyhalite contains four vital plant nutrients; sulphur, potassium, magnesium and calcium; and has a far lower ‘carbon footprint’ than many other fertilisers
The mine is moving towards its production target of 700,000 tonnes by the end of this year and, matching production to demand, reaching a million tonnes by the end of 2020 and 1.3million tonnes by 2023.
