An employability workshop to help 30 Sunderland College students develop workplace skills at insurer MORE TH>N’s offices in Grayling Court has resulted in two of the students being offered jobs.
Kieran Fletcher and Morgan Kingsland were so inspired by what they experienced during the workshops that they successfully applied for part-time customer manager roles – which they are able fit around their studies.
Staff from MORE TH>N - which is part of international insurer RSA – have been volunteering across the country, to share their skills to help young people in local schools and colleges develop employability skills, at a series of workshops similar to the one in Sunderland.
Head of MORE TH>N, Rob Hanrahan explains:
“We recognise few young people dream of a career in insurance. Yet financial services are one of the UK’s premier industries offering rich and fulfilling careers for thousands. By opening up our offices and giving students the chance to meet our staff and experience their passion for the industry first hand, we are inspiring the next generation to consider insurance as a career.”
Student Morgan Kingsland added: “I loved the atmosphere when we went on the site tour, the volunteers in the workshops made us feel really welcome and talked so enthusiastically about working at MORE TH>N that I was inspired to apply for a part-time job.”
MORE TH>N people development leader, Michelle Liddle, is thrilled Kieran and Morgan have joined the team; "It’s a fantastic outcome from what was a really worthwhile volunteering day. We'll definitely build on this and start planning another bigger and even better employability day soon...and who knows we could find our future business leaders, so watch this space!”
