The Quarterly Economic Survey is the largest and most representative independent business survey of its kind in the North East

What is it?

Our Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) is a vital part of how the region’s businesses find out how they are all doing. You can help by spending a few minutes of your time to contribute to this analysis which is one of the largest surveys in the North East. The quarter 2 2017 survey has now closed and the results will be released mid July.

The results are an invaluable measure of different aspects of business such as the level of new orders from both the UK and overseas.

It is used by decision-makers in the region and also national organisations including HM Treasury and Bank of England, to help shape policies which affect companies.

How do I get involved?

The QES is opened once every quarter and remains open for approximately three weeks. The Q2 survey closed on 12th June 2017.

The Chamber donates £1 to charity for every response received and a briefing event is held at the beginning of every quarter at which the Chamber presents the latest findings and welcomes a guest speaker. For further information about the next QES briefing date please click here.

If you would like further information regarding the Quarterly Economic Survey including latest results from Q1, briefing dates or other material please do not hesitate to contact the Chamber's Head of Policy and Campaigns Jonathan Walker by emailing
