North East England Chamber of Commerce is organising a new programme of flagship regional business award competitions to recognise the outstanding achievements of organisations and inspiring businesswomen in its membership.

Launching in January 2020 there will be Chamber Business Awards and Chamber Inspiring Females Awards.

Chamber Business Award categories include best leader, exporter, use of technology, family business, high growth achievement and e commerce. The Chamber Inspiring Females Awards are open to organisations, of all sizes, who can compete for a range of honours including best employer, apprentice, employer, community/CSR or business leader aimed at celebrating the significant contribution of women in North East business.

James Ramsbotham, chief executive, North East England Chamber of Commerce said: “We have brilliant businesses and individuals in our region and these awards will celebrate everything they do, on a daily basis, to grow our economy. The honours will showcase examples of a real determination to succeed, no matter what occurs and how our region’s businesses always punch about their weight. I urge all our members to enter and share their brilliant stories.”

The Chamber Business Awards are to be associate and headline sponsored by Bernicia. Chief executive, John Johnston said “As a Housing Association fully focused on the North East, Bernicia recognise the fantastic work that the North East of England Chamber of Commerce do to support the region’s business community, and to promote the scale and range of opportunities that our region has to offer. That’s why we are delighted to be associate sponsor of the chamber’s business awards.”

There is the opportunity for a number of Chamber awards regional winners to go on to the national British Chambers of Commerce awards in London in November 2020.

The official launch of the Chamber awards and submissions being open, will take place in January. Heats will be held in April and May as lunch events, with the regional categories being North of Tyne, South of Tyne/Wearside/County Durham and Tees Valley/North Yorkshire.

The final for the Inspiring Females Awards will be in May at Newcastle Civic Centre and the overall Chamber award Grand Final and Summer Ball will be in June at Wynyard Hall.
