Chamber members meet shadow Brexit Secretary

North East England Chamber of Commerce members from a range of sectors were able to voice their concerns about Brexit to Shadow Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer at a meeting in Westminster.

Representatives from businesses including Neue Schule and Primex Plastics briefed Keir Starmer and Darlington MP Jenny Chapman on issues which were impacting on their companies.

Julie Underwood, Chamber international trade director said: “We organised this opportunity for members to explain clearly how the uncertainty about Brexit is impacting their businesses. It was an extremely useful meeting for us and Keir Starmer also said how helpful it was for him to have concrete case studies on employers’ views of the Brexit situation, as it stands. Our members were able to set out their Brexit contingency planning and the cost implications of this as well. It is vitally important our politicians have a full picture of this information.”

The Chamber has a wealth of information on Brexit on its website including a detailed up-to-date blog about key dates and decisions to be taken by the Government. There are also events planned to brief businesses on the different, possible scenarios which could develop after Tuesday’s vote.

Further support for businesses is available from the Chamber’s in-house international trade team including advice on becoming an Authorised Economic Operator which can ease products route through customs.
