North East Shadow MPC Delivers Majority Verdict to Hold Interest Rates for AugustCommenting on the publication of an independent review of infrastructure by Sir John Armitt, chairman of the Olympic Development Authority, North East Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure Specialist, Mark Stephenson, said:
"Infrastructure investment is essential to keep the wheels of business turning. For too long, we've welcomed ambitious plans and long-term strategies that have ultimately failed to come to fruition. It is now time to see some delivery on the ground.

"Sir John Armitt is one of the few people in Britain who knows what it takes to deliver a major project, and his new report sets out some welcome ideas on how to break our infrastructure logjam.

"An independent infrastructure commission could help end what we call 'Stop-Start' Britain, and promote greater business investment.

"Our infrastructure needs, such as the proposed Heathrow third runway, redevelopment of Hartlepool Power Station and HS2 proposals should be assessed by real experts. Informed decisions could then be made on their findings."
