The North East Chamber of Commerce-led programme kicked off Apprenticeship Week in the best way possible as students recorded a pass rate of 97%, compared to a national average of 75%.

For the past 20 years, NECC, the region's largest independent training provider, has successfully provided dental training programmes to businesses across the North East and currently boasts over 180 nurses studying for their Advanced Apprenticeship Diploma in Dental Nursing.

The 18-month qualification, recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC), is required to register as a dental nurse and is made up of a Diploma in Dental Nursing and the Dental Nursing Exam, plus training in English, Maths and Personal Skills.

NECC Professional Skills Assistant Manager, Dawn Longmore, said:

"Our learners always achieve excellent exam results, but this year's crop of apprentices has been exceptional. It is fantastic to see so many motivated young people working extremely hard to achieve their goals and all of the practices appreciating the importance of on the job training.

"We work closely with dental practices to ensure all of our comprehensive training programmes meet and exceed their requirements."

The NECC's Dental Nurse training programme provides employers with dedicated free staff recruitment with a large number of potential apprentices waiting to be placed.

The training consists of a range of either half day sessions or evening lessons, whatever suits the employer and the nurse.

The lessons are delivered weekly by qualified and registered dental nurse tutors who come from different backgrounds within the dental profession including practice managers, oral surgery and oral health educators, sedation nurses and radiographers.

Dawn added:

"NECC is the largest independent training and apprenticeship provider in the North East and we pride ourselves on finding the perfect match for both the learner and the company.

"More businesses are recognising the value of apprenticeships and, with the diverse range we offer, we currently have more people than ever before expressing an interest in becoming an apprentice."

N&N Dental Group has used NECC apprentices for 10 years. Group Manager, Linda Lacey, said:

"The NECC have provided an exceptional service for many years and it continues to meet the needs of employers.

"The group needs a skilled workforce both now and in the future and advanced apprenticeships are a first class way of achieving this. NECC provides our trainees with a valuable qualification and on the job training which is mutually beneficial for both employers and staff alike."

NECC offers a choice of training days and evenings at locations across the region with courses due to start soon. The next Advanced Apprenticeship in Diploma in Dental Nursing course is scheduled for June 2013 at NECC's Middlesbrough and Newcastle offices. To learn more about the courses call 07912 478932.
