Two North East England companies beat off stiff competition from all over the UK to come away with honours at the national British Chambers of Commerce awards at the Brewery, London, last night (30 November 2017).

Seaham-based Prima Cheese was named runner-up in the Export Business of the Year category and EGGER was awarded runner-up in the Commitment to People Development category.
James Ramsbotham, chief executive, North East England Chamber of Commerce, which supported the businesses in their bid for success said: “We are incredibly proud of all these Chamber members who came to compete in these prestigious awards. Both Prima Cheese and EGGER have done extremely well to be named second in their category against hundreds of businesses around the country. They fly the flag for our region every day with their determination to succeed and outstanding performance.”
Nima Beni, director, Prima Cheese said: “We are honoured and proud to have achieved second place in the country. It is encouraging to know that what we have achieved in the last six years in particular has put us in a clear position for the coming year. Bring it on!”
Tobias Zimmerman, technical director, EGGER said: Being runner up is already a great success for us. It proves the effort and commitment to the development of our staff is appreciated and that we will continue with our strategy going forward.
Other North East businesses which had won their place and attended the awards final were Omega Plastics, O’Brien Recycling and Mediaworks.
The North East Business Awards entries are now open and winners from this competition can be selected to go forward to the national BCC awards in 2018.
