The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) has launched the NECC Training Celebration Awards 2012 to recognise the extraordinary efforts of its learners and employers across the region.

The NECC Training Celebration Awards continue again this year with categories for apprentices across a number of business disciplines with a focus on celebrating learner achievements on NECC's flagship apprenticeships programme and the benefits this delivers to North East.

Categories for this year's awards include Engineering Learner of the Year, Business and Professional Learner of the Year and Professional Skills Learner of the Year, in addition to a range of Employer's Choice Awards.

There will also be an overall winner with the NECC Learner of the Year category which last year was awarded to inspirational learner Gillian Nicholson.

Gillian scooped the top award last year thanks to her outstanding accomplishments in spite of battling serious illness and many other personal challenges.

Patricia Wilkinson, director of training and skills development at NECC said:

"Thanks to the great success of last year's awards, we have continued to offer the extended list of categories to recognise the incredible achievements being made by NECC learners across the across the region on a daily basis.

"We are very proud of the fact that NECC has a consistently high standard of learners who achieved an 90% success rate on their apprenticeships last year. We therefore feel they all deserve a chance to be celebrated."

NECC's coveted Employer of the Year Award, won last year by accountancy firm UNW LLP, will again be presented in recognition of the commitment that businesses in the region are showing to apprenticeships and skills development.

Nominations for all categories are open from 9am on 2 July until 5pm on 31 July. Judging will take place during August and the winners will be presented at a showcase event on Thursday 6 September at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.
