Multi-million-pound plans have been unveiled for a 180-job Teesside food store and drive-through development.

Northumberland Estates hopes to create a 46,000sq ft shop at Wynyard Park, near Billingham.

Officials say they expect the supermarket to be “occupied by a high-quality national operator”, with “national chains” also said to be interested in taking on the project’s two proposed drive-through bases.

They say the scheme will provide much-needed amenities for local residents, who, in the majority, presently travel to nearby Billingham and Stockton for shopping.

Guy Munden, development planner at Northumberland Estates, said: “This will help to better meet local retail needs, and reduce the need for people to travel to large stores elsewhere.”
